Two driving routes help explore this forested part of the province: the Kittiwake Coast route on northeast coast and the Coast of Bays Route, taking you to Bay D'Espoir and Harbour Breton.

The Coast of Bays is on the rugged southern coast of Newfoundland, where both fishing and hiking abound. Visitors can find sandy beaches and swimming locations, or simply beachcomb. The region of Harbour Breton is well known for providing moose and caribou sightings. In the town of Harbour Breton the Sunny Cottage Heritage Centre welcomes visitors to its early 1900's Queen Anne style home. Local people make period costumes to wear during the Tradition by the Sea festival. The area also attracts hikers, campers, kayakers and rock climbers.

On The Kittiwake Coast lies Gander, the important aviation centre, with exhibits of aviation history and aircraft, including a Canadian fighter jet, on display. Fishing is good in David Smallwood Park, where salmon navigate a salmon ladder to go upstream to spawn. The Burnside Archaeology Centre exhibits artifacts from the last 5,000 years of human history in the area. Boyd's Cove Beothuk Interpretation Centre depicts everyday life of the native Beothuk people who lived in the region until the early 1700's. In early July the Miawpukek First Nation hosts an annual Powwow with traditional dancing and drumming in Conne River. And don't forget to enjoy some fresh lobster during the season from April to June.
