The famous explorer Giovanni Caboto is attributed to naming Bonavista Newfoundland when he first saw it in 1497.  Bonavista is one of the most easterly located communities in continental North America and juts out into the North Atlantic and as a result became very significant for fishing.

Bonavista is three hours from the Argentia ferry, 3 hours from Gander Airport, and just 3.5 hours from St. John's. But you may not want to leave.  The number of historic attractions is huge.  From lighthouses to museums to churches.  In addition you can enjoy the natural attractions of Bonavista, including whales, seabirds (such as Puffins) as well as watch icebergs float by.

Bonavista accommodations include hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts and campgrounds.
