Gander is famous for its airport, Gander International Airport.  Gander's position in eastern North America made it an important fuelling stop for transatlantic flights.  In 1935 Gander became an airbase and during WWII about 20,000 fighters and bombers built in the USA and Canada were refuelled in Gander before heading to Europe.

More recently, Gander received 39 flights redirected there during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the USA.

On the Trans Canada Highway you will find the North Atlantic Aviation Museum. It includes vintage aircraft, historic photographs and many civilian and military aviation artifacts.

Make sure to stay in Gander accommodations.
