Musgrave Harbour has a previous name, "Muddy Hole," which was given by the first settlers (John and Ann Whiteway and family) in 1834. Since first impressions matter, the town was renamed to Musgrave Harbour in 1886.

Musgrave Harbour is known for its many kilometres of sandy beaches along the Kittiwake Coast.

Perhaps an unusual spot in Musgrave Harbour is the Banting Interpretation Centre.  Sir Frederick Banting was the co-creator of insulin and died in a plane crash in 1941 just outside Musgrave Harbour.  A recreation of the Hudson Bomber plane as well as crash artefacts are on display during summer months.

Other interesting sites include the Orange Hall and the Fisherman's Museum.
